The APO switches effortlessly from one genre to another. With great class, the musicians manage to bridge different styles and centuries, move from classical to pop and back, and even blur the boundaries between genres. In its core strength, the APO has about 50 musicians, but for larger performances like Night of the Proms, the orchestra is expanded to a 72-headed ensemble. Alexandra Arrieche has been its permanent conductor for several years.
