2002
The peak year in terms of numbers of shows in Antwerp. Roxette was initially top of the bill, but a tumour diagnosed in singer Marie Frederiksson a month and a halve before the start decided otherwise. Fortunately, Jim and Charlie from Simple Minds were available and willing to step in, which boosted ticket sales to even greater heights: 24 shows for some 350,000 music fans. That year also featured Michael McDonald as a guest, along with Pointer Sisters who brought incredible energy to the stage. To further compensate for the cancellation of Roxette, Foreigner is added to the lineup, leaving a lasting impression with their hit ‘I Wanna Know What Love Is’ ! The classical soloist is David Garrett, a young German violin virtuoso, who years later continues to effortlessly fill the biggest halls in Germany and beyond. His entrance to ‘Everybody’s Gotta Lean Sometimes’ by John melts the hearts of everyone in the audience.
