The silver jubilee features 2 artists who were also present at the very first edition: John Miles and Toots Thielemans, at the age of 87. They thrill the audience during an intense collaboration on ‘If I Could’. Earlier in the year, Roxette announced their desire to return to the stage, and wanted to make up for their involuntary cancellation in 2002 by spontaneously coming to Night of the Proms. Marie has visibly not yet fully recovered, but the hits still prove irresistible. This time, OMD joins the show, after their cancellation two years earlier. They brought along the Katona Twins from Liverpool, who shine on classical guitar, accompanying John Miles on his version of ‘Stairway to Heaven’. Sharon den Adel, singer of Within Temptation, pulls out all the stops, and gives power to modern arias vibrant flames and splendid fireworks.
